New trendy fabrics are being created all the time and marketed with great hype and gusto, some of these fabrics are a worthwhile addition to our lives whilst others will have disappeared from our memories before we know it. But in these times of ecological sensitivity that we live in so much effort is being put into finding new ecologically friendly fabrics that some good must come of it. The reason for all of the research into these fabrics is that not all materials are eco friendly to harvest and produce in garments, indeed many are anything but eco friendly and do considerable damage to our environment.
One material that has never really been thought of as much use to anyone other than panda's maybe is bamboo. In the climates where the plant grows bamboo is in plentiful supply, is easy to grow and is very easy to harvest. No harsh chemicals are needed to get it to a stage that it can be worked and it can be harvested with relatively little damage to the surrounding area. So could bamboo be the answer to our eco friendly fabric problem? One thing that bamboo is very good at is absorbing moisture, the Chinese have used bamboo cloths for many hundreds of years but it is only recently that Western society has picked up on this product. Because of it's super absorbent features bamboo fibre is now widely used in the production of eco friendly cleaning cloths and drying cloths, but recently another use for bamboo fibre has been utilized. It is possible to get fibres for producing fabric from many other soft woods but bamboo so far seems to be the easiest one to harvest and work with.
Body Bath
Bamboo fibre is now being developed into a fabric that can be used as a bath, beach or hand towel for around the home or pool. Bamboo yarn absorbs faster than cotton, is softer than cotton, and is naturally antibacterial for hygienic daily use. Sheets of bamboo are now selling as bamboo wash cloths and bamboo bath robes, the latter being extremely warm and comfortable on the skin. Many companies are now looking at the real possibility of producing a range of bamboo bath sheets bamboo bath sheets, bath towels, hand towels and washcloths. The other thing that suits using bamboo is the cost of the fabric. Because it is in such plentiful supply it is cheap in comparison with many other fashionable fabrics, although not quite as cheap as the mass produced cotton of the world, for an eco friendly solution to drying oneself it certainly isn't fierce on the pocket.
The other good thing about bamboo fibre is that it really still in its mass produced infancy with manufacturers still learning the most efficient way to work with it as well as the best way to get more fabric from the fibre. All things considered the cost of producing a bamboo fibre garment should only really go down in the long run.So go ahead, molly coddle yourself in the instinctive lavishness of a bamboo towel because not only are they good for your body and soul, but also our environment.
